WETHERSFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT
RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION (RtI) PLAN

Objective: By the 2010-2011 school year, Wethersfield School District will fully implement a Response to Intervention (RtI) system.
            The RtI System will be:
                  1) A three tier model of school supports,
                  2) A problem solving method for decision making
                  3) An integrated data system that informs instruction and which results in all students and subgroups reaching annual AYP performance targets in reading, writing, and math.

Student Strategies and Activities:
            • Local assessments in reading, math, and writing will be administered to all students in grades K-12 at a minimum of two times per year.
            • The RtI team and staff members will use scientifically based intervention strategies to remediate identified areas of concern in specific students.
            • The RtI team will regularly collect baseline data and progress monitor for identified tier 2 and tier 3 students.

Professional Development Strategies and Activities:
            • Educate and train staff about the RtI initiative.
            • Train and provide follow up support on research based strategies to correct learning deficiencies identified by local and standardized test score analysis.
            • RtI team members will meet regularly with classroom teachers to discuss and provide support to identified struggling students.
            • Professional Development days will be utilized to develop local assessments and verify curriculum in reading, math, and writing is aligned to the Illinois State Learning Standards.
            • Professional Development days will be utilized to train staff on the use of screening instruments and conducting an analysis of test score data.

Parent Involvement and Activities:
            • The school administrators, RtI team, and classroom teachers will invite and encourage parents to attend RtI team meetings pertaining to their child so that parent input can be sought when interventions are discussed.
            • The RtI team will create informational flyers on the three tier RtI process that will be given to parents to communicate what the RtI process is and how it will work in the Wethersfield School District.
            • Parents will be notified of their special education evaluation rights at RtI meetings.

Action Plan Monitoring:
The District RtI Planning Committee will meet monthly during the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years to monitor the district's progress toward full implementation of an RtI system by 2010-2011. Specifically, the Planning Committee will address the following key questions at its monthly meetings:
            1) What is the progress the district has made towards the Action Plan's strategies and activities? Are the strategies and activities on time and within budget?
            2) How are students, staff and parents responding to the services being provided by the strategies and activities?
            3) Does staff have adequate resources (time, training, materials, etc...) to reach the desired objective?
            4) Are there significant problems that need attention?
