Huge shoutout to Mr. Phelps for offering to shave his head if we raised $500 in support of Officer Woods. Goose Island showed up big time and more than tripled it! We raised $1600 for Officer Woods! Thank you all so much for donating and thank you Mr. Phelps for being such a good sport. #OneBlockOneFlock

This week, 8th grade students in Mrs.Townsend and Mrs. Newman's classes have been working on a cross-curricular project in Social Studies and ELA; students have been researching Indigenous Peoples' Day. Based on their research, students have been collaboratively working on group projects to present to the elementary classrooms next week. Students had the choice of creating a slideshow, a blog, a news article, or a storybook. Students also had to create an individual infographic to highlight the 5Ws of Indigenous People's Day. The students have been very engaged in this project, and they are excited about presenting their final products next week!

The Madalitso Band from Malawi (southeastern Africa) put on a performance for over 300 Wethersfield students and staff today in the elementary. Our music teacher, Mrs. Hagaman, was contacted by Crossroads Cultural Connections about having the Madalitso Band perform at Wethersfield and were sponsored by the Wethersfield Music Boosters in order to bring the unique experience to our students. The group played guitar, foot drums, and babatones. Both the foot drum and the babatone are homemade instruments. The students learned some words in our guests native language and used them to help sing along during the performance.

In Mrs. DeValkenaere's 5th grade social studies class, students are working collaboratively as they learned about the Dust Bowl. Students read a passage and had to answer questions about the severe dust storms during the drought of the 1930's. To prove their answers, they had to highlight evidence in the text. Thank you Mrs. Newman for capturing our students hard at work!
