Today, our first-graders took part in a fun mock election to vote for their favorite Oreo cookie: Golden or Chocolate. The activity aimed at teaching them about the voting process in an engaging way. The day started with the reading of Grace for President, a story that emphasizes the importance of voting. Afterward, the students got to taste both types of Oreos, helping them decide which one they liked best. Before voting, each student filled out a voter registration card to learn about the steps in an election. Then, they went to the polling stations to cast their votes. The results were close, with Golden Oreos winning 18 votes to Chocolate's 15. The excitement in the classroom made it a memorable experience for everyone, combining learning with fun!

Excellent Job at Drop-Off this morning, especially for our first day! Thank you for helping us make our drop-off the safest and most efficient that we can. Some notes or adjustments to be aware of moving forward: 1. Any family with a Pre-K or Kindergarten student may get dropped off at the main elementary school entrance. If not, parents will have to use the car lane by the Blish. 2. Please pull all the way forward to the Green Drop Off Signs in the lane. We will direct you forward as a reminder. 3. Those who park across McClure Street and walk their student across McClure Street will either need to park and walk to the nearest crosswalk for safety or drive around to use the car lane by the Blish. Those who park on the South side of McClure Street (school side) may use the sidewalk to take their student to the playground gate. 4. All buses will drop students off (including Pre-K) at the playground gate on McClure Street. Those eating breakfast will continue to stay on to be dropped off at the Main High School Entrance. 5. Life Skills Program - Parents will pull out of line to the right to drop off their student if before their drop-off time (8:00am-8:10am), then re-enter the car lane when appropriate. 6. Junior High Parents may either drop their students off at the Main High School door or they can go through the drop-off lane with 1st - 6th students. Do Not drop your students off to walk across Garfield in the morning as it gets congested. 7. Parents may use the Main Elementary Entrance if it is past 8am instead of the car lane by the Blish.

Each month, second-grade students exchange letters with second-graders from Cambridge. Each student builds a friendship with their own pen pal. On Friday, the Cambridge students came and visited their WES friends. Later this year, our WES students will visit their Cambridge pen pals.
